Flowers and Men

By Amy Nutt
What? Flowers and Men! Not really. Before you think of shaking your head in mock disbelief, let us enlighten you with the fact that most men have been obsessed with flowers as early as the Romantic period. Many a Victorian dandy has sniffed a bunch of blooms while writing scented love notes to his beloved and famous poets have waxed eloquent verse about their sheer beauty. Who can ever forget Daffodils by William Wordsworth?

Studies show that flowers actually have a positive effect on human beings and men aren't far behind from being influenced? Though it is an established fact that men are not averse to flowers, one never really thinks of giving them flowers often. Get that idea out of your head. Flowers are as cherished by men as by women. Though they may not exactly go weak in the knees, men like to feel just as special and pampered as most women do.

Men like flowers in all colors, depending on their personalities. Some especially prefer colors that are vibrant and colorful, and enjoy flowers including the likes of red roses, pink orchids and yellow chrysanthemums. Others like dark and unusual shades and appreciate when a lady gives them a sultry black rose.

When buying flowers for men, it's important to go for simple arrangements. Men usually don't like arrangements that are very elaborate and fancy. In fact adding interesting green plants and herbs to the arrangement is usually a good idea. These days, contemporary styles with sleek lines are great favorites with men.

However, not all flowers can be given to all men. And in case you're questioning whether that's a huge generalization, we're assuming you realize that certain flowers such as red roses symbolize passion and romance and are not really appropriate to be given as gifts to fathers, brothers, and so on. Flowers such as the white carnation - which symbolizes innocence - and the Belle of Ireland - which stands for good luck - can be gifted to any man, whether he's a part of your family of group of friends. Remember, whether it is their birthday or a recent achievement in their professional lives, men like to be shown appreciation with flower gifts.

Wait! Men also like to use flowers as accessories. When your man wears a classic black suit and tucks in a blood red rose in his breast pocket, doesn't he look absolutely divine? Yes! Men are known to like accessorizing their look with a single flower or a spray pinned to their pockets. This style not only looks very stylish but gives them an air of rakish charm. So don't hesitate to tuck in that rose for him the next time you're headed for a romantic dinner at a lavish restaurant.

True Love

True Love

True Love and Sparkling Eyes

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Thomas_Cummins]Thomas Cummins

My love transmits across the skies
To a delightful lady with sparkling eyes
My heart is yours and I tell no lies
For love pours out from my souls' insides

No one else can there be
To have the love that I hold for thee
You have filled my life with loving bliss
My exquisite lady my charming miss

Everyday you amaze me more and more
With your smiles your laughter and your love galore
What can I say to you that you have not heard before
Except I love you and will forever more

My thoughts are wholesome and true
My love for you is honest too
My gait is light my heart is pure
As the love I hold only for you

My love......there is so much I want to say
And I look forward to the coming special day
Like you would not imagine it could be an essay
Of everything that I really have to portray

I promise you this my lady of my heart
That feelings for you will never part
Even when I think of you and we are far apart
I know in my soul this is going to be a fresh new start

Reading today of a couple celebrating their 60 years wedding anniversary inspired wonder at the wonder of it for in this day and age they had to have something that was beyond even the word special and my sincerest congratulations to them.

Long lasting love like a parent with their child or friends who have been together since childhood sharing all the trials and tribulations of life together has got to be a treasure of treasures and probably why class reunions are so popular all over the world. We all have a long deep desire for longevity and sincere relationships that last no matter what life throws at us and is achieved by many of us no matter what statistics say to the contrary.

When one looks at a couple in love their eyes sparkle and they have a bounce in their step and one may only pray that this couple will have the fortitude and deep love to make this relationship last so they too may celebrate 60 years or more in a loving relationship.

Asking this couple what their secret is to their success they both echoed spontaneously respect and selflessness. There is no space in a loving relationship for even a hint of selfishness for everything one does has to have the interests of the other at heart. No matter the attractions of temptations and there we always have the knowledge that the love we know in our heart is being equally matched by our other half and then we say no automatically to temptation and when we get together we always compliment each other, have time to kiss and gaze happily into each others sparkling eyes.

Wild Rose

Wild Rose

The Rich History of Wild Roses

By Ken Austin
Wild roses, of the genus Rosa, are those naturally occurring natives found in Northern Hemispheres around the globe. Wild Roses can be found in forests, canyons, logged wastelands and thickets. They have continued to grow throughout the course of history and across a range of different terrains. Most modern day roses we know are mixed offspring of these wild roses.

Wild roses have had a rich history. They played roles in Greek and Roman culture, symbolizing themes such as love and allegiance. Later they became sought after for cosmetic, medicinal and religious purposes as well. However, with the beginnings of large-scale worldwide trade, rose horticulture and hybridization took root. This forever changed the wild rose landscape from a relatively small number of wild roses across the planet's surface to today's world with thousands-upon-thousands of rose varieties.

There are plenty of advantages to cultivating wild roses in modern-day rose gardens. Wild roses are strong, disease resistant plants, which can be grown in almost any less-than-ideal location. They are not dependent on regular fertilization and can tolerate some drought. Requiring essentially no care, wild roses are able to spread on their own, can handle being crowded and withstand transplanting at almost any time of year.

Some popular varieties of wild roses include:

Rosa Nutkana

An arching shrub with pink petals, the rosa nutkana grows in milder climates. Though it is fairly weather-tolerant, this shrub is best cultivated in sunny and well-drained locations. Prune often as thickets grow quite quickly.

Rosa Rugosa

This species, native to China, Korea and Japan, has been made into a number of different rose cultivars. It is a fast growing pink flower with rose-hips resembling small tomatoes. It prefers full sunlight and well-drained acidic soil. Since it is a salt-tolerant plant, it is an ideal shrub in coastal conditions. Light infrequent pruning will help keep growth of the Rosa rugosa under control.

Rosa Foliolosa

This is a member of the rosaceae family and is also know as leafy rose or prairie rose. The rosa foliolosa is a lovely little rose found mainly in Central and North Central Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. It is small in size with very thin wood, very elegant little foliage, with usually nine tiny leaflets per leaf. One of its great characteristics is its fern-like bright green foliage.

Rosa Blanda

Another member of the rosaceae family, the rosa blanda, also known as meadow rose is a shrub-like thornless plant which grows to about three to four feet tall and prefers rich soil in full sun to light shade. It produces lovely pink flowers between June and August and the fruit resembles small apples.
